Aisha's Revenge
The long-awaited sequel to 'I Walked Abroad',
recorded February - June 2004. The album features
Zarafa's expanded line-up of Pin Rada, Mark Planigale,
Ashley Jones, Bob Knob, Bernadette Heald and Ben
Last. The album also features guest performances
by Brahim Benhim (oud, percussion), Colette Mortreux
(clarinet), and Tai Jordan (trumpet) on several
tracks.
Aisha's Revenge is structured around a set of
powerful acoustic dance tracks from the Balkans
and Middle East, interspersed with haunting traditional
vocals and instrumental taksims. The material
is again wide-ranging, including traditional dance
tunes from Turkey, traditional songs from Croatia
and Macedonia, original bellydance pieces, ambient
street sounds from the markets of Melbourne, a
documentary spoken word piece in English, Arabic,
Hebrew and Turkish commenting on the 'War on Terrorism',
and more.
